About the presenter: Concetta Tomaino, DA, MT-BC, LCAT
Dr. Concetta Tomaino is the Executive Director and co-founder of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function and Senior Vice President for Music Therapy at Beth Abraham Family of Health Services, where she has worked since 1980.
Dr. Tomaino is internationally known for her research in the clinical applications of music and neurologic rehabilitation. She has lectured on music therapy throughout the United States and in, Argentina, Australia, South Africa, Italy, England, and Canada.
Her work has been featured in national programs including 48 Hours and 60 Minutes; in international programs including the BBC; and in books on health and healing, including A Matter of Dignity, by Andrew Potok; The Mozart Effect, by Don Campbell; Age Protectors (Rodale Press); Sounds of Healing, by Mitchell Gaynor, M.D; and An Anthropologist on Mars, by Oliver Sacks, M.D. Dr. Sack’s book Musicophilia is dedicated to her.
Dr. Tomaino recently discussed "The Positive Effects of Music Therapy on Health" in a program cosponsored by the Music Division and the Science, Technology and Business Division of the Library of Congress.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will learn how music can:
1) affect brain development
2) improve overall health and well being
3) aid in improving memory and attention
4) be used in therapy to help in recovery/maintenance of function after injury or illness
Those who will benefit from attending include: people with neurological disorders, caregivers, educators, music therapists, health care providers, musicians, students, everyone with an interest in music and/or the brain!
Continuing Education Credits: Available for an additional $20
Five Continuing Music Therapy Education (CMTE) credits are available through the Oregon Association for Music Therapy, a CBMT Approved Provider.
IACET CEU's (International Association for Continuing Education and Training) are offered for this conference. Individuals wishing to earn CEUs are advised to check with their certification body, licensure agency, and/or employer to determine if these CEUs can be used to satisfy specific requirements. IACET CEUs may be useful to Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Educators, Psychologists, Nurses, and other professionals. Snacks and Lunch Arrangements: Morning and afternoon refreshments will be provided. Coffee/tea/water will be available throughout the day. Lunch is on your own. There are many nearby restaurants.
